Shades and Sunscreen

Jouranlism is dead. Good writers are a thing of the past. Look into retail. I cant tell you how many times I've heard these words and they are begining to sound like my aunt Maggy, old and depressing. Yes I know that newpapers are becoming extinct and trying to find a place to write is harder than trigonometry but come on give aspiring writers some hope. Let us have a dream and help keep it alive instead of sucking the life out of it. Growing writers need encouragement. We need to look at what is in front of us with shades on, because let me tell you the next Rick Reillys of America, our future is gonna be bright. All we have to do is believe.

If you have already considered a career in journalism then you have two things: a passion for writing and nerves of steel ( Anyone who has written on deadline can atest to the last one). You have a dream and being as strong willed as most writers are, you want to see it come to pass no matter how hard a fight it might be. That is what should give you hope future writers. You dont need to get down every time you hear negative things said about journalism and a career in it because deep down within, you know that you are dreamers and do'ers and having that combination is the key to success. Sure the industry may be looking caos in the eye but not you. You have talent. You have skill. You know that no matter what happens, even if every newspaper in the country shuts you out, that hope will always be there. Let me tell you a story...

There once was a boy who grew up in a small New Mexican town. Every week the boy would run to the post office to grab the latest Sports Illustrated and read it cover to cover on the spot. Sure people would look at him funny as he sat on the post office floor with wide eyes and funky braces holding the magazine in front of his freckled face but he didnt care. He was to busy fueling his dream with the stories in front of him. He was captivated by the magic of journalism in its highest form. He was berthing hope and creating a passion that would burn inside him forever. Well that boy was me and let me tell you I am still chasing that dream and you can too.

What made you want to be a writer? What berthed the passion inside of you? These are the questions you need to ask yourself and then you will see what I see, hope. This is the secret to our future success fellow writers. We have to believe in a dream. We have to keep hope alive and use it as encouragemet in these times of change. With all this negativety floating around journalism its future core has to stay strong and believe that tomorrow will be a brighter day because will all our talent and determination how can it not be? So start investing future journalists of America. Start investing in RayBans, flipflops and suncreen because our future is as sunny as it can get.
